Significance of Guru Purnima

Guru Purnima is a traditional festival of the Hindus and the Buddhists. It is celebrated to acknowledge the contribution of teachers. This day is dedicated by the disciples to their teachers. This day is very important for the students and the teachers (both spiritual and academic). People dedicate this day to Sage Vyasa. Buddhists dedicate this day to Lord Buddha.

A Guru (teacher) plays an important role in molding the life of a student. The Nepali tradition widely accepts the positive influence of Guru (teacher) in a student’s life. A teacher is considered to remove darkness (ignorance) from a student’s life. A blessed student is one who has received the blessing of his/her guru.

Teachers play a major role in influencing and molding a child’s life as children in their formative and impressionable years spend a lot of time at school. Whatever a child learns at this time stays with him/her all his/her life.

Celebration of Prime Global School

On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, all the students of Prime Global School organized a program to celebrate and honor this day. The program started by honoring teacher’s with Tika (red vermillion powder). The principal of the school, Mr. N.P. Sharma also exchanged Tika among students. He gave short speech on how he feels about this day. He said, “Teachers can also learn plenty of things from students. Even through this program teachers can learn how to manage program like this. Both the teachers and students should respect and learn from each other.” Students also organized cultural events on this day. Not only that, fun games were organized for teachers. After fun games, cake cutting ceremony was held and everyone had refreshments, along with this the program was ended.

Like this way students appreciated their teachers for inspiring them to proceed forward, to build their ethics and prepare them to withstand obstacles of their life.

Teachers work hard day and night to bring out the best in students. They unfolds our hidden talents and creativity. Just like a good gardener, a teacher sows the seeds of moral-ethics within us so that we can become good citizens. So, this day have great significance.

According to a Japanese proverb, “Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher.” There’s truth in those words, as anyone who has ever had a great teacher will know!
